DEFECT NOTICES
Got a Defect Notice From Ausgrid or Endeavour? Cleared.
A letter from Ausgrid or Endeavour Energy lands in the mailbox with a deadline and a list of items that read like a foreign language. Forward it to us with one exterior photo. We diagnose, book in, and clear the notice inside the statutory window.
Defect notice received?
Forward the letter. We clear it.
Got an electrical defect notice from Ausgrid or Endeavour Energy? Pick the network, classify the issue, send a photo of the letter and the affected area. We confirm the work, the price and the booking inside one business day, and clear the notice before its deadline — properly, the first time.
01
What the letter actually means
A defect notice means the network has found something on your side of the point of attachment that needs fixing. It usually points to one of these:
- Aged or undersized consumer mains
- A damaged point of attachment
- A switchboard that no longer complies
- Metering that needs relocating
All of it is Level 2 ASP work.
Send us the notice. That's the whole start.
Send us your defect notice. Photo of the letter and one exterior photo of the board is all we need to scope the job.
03
The notices we clear most weeks
We clear the full range of defect notices, including:
- Corroded meter enclosures and point of attachment hardware
- Consumer mains too old or too small for the load
- Switchboards rebuilt with an RCBO on every circuit
- Vegetation clearance around the service line
Both networks, both sides of the river
Accredited with Ausgrid and Endeavour Energy, covering Sydney metro, the Hills, Hawkesbury and the Blue Mountains.
05
How the clearance actually runs
We lodge the network forms in our name, book any outage, arrange traffic control and turn up with the right crew. Board replacements get a full RCBO build, torque-tested terminations and an earth-leakage test before the meter goes back on. The clearance certificate goes to the network the same day, with a copy to you.
You never deal with the network yourself.
06
Insurance and conveyancing — why the notice matters past the deadline
A defect notice stays on the network's file against the property and shows up next time a technician attends. Some insurers won't renew once a switchboard is flagged, and conveyancers can hold settlement until a clearance certificate is produced. Clearing it once, properly, is the cheaper path.

Common questions.
How long do I have to clear an electrical defect notice in Sydney?
The deadline is printed on the notice itself and depends on the severity category the network has assigned. Some categories are immediate, others give weeks. Don't wait — the moment you forward the letter to us we read the category and confirm your clearance window in writing. We then book the work to land inside that window without you having to track the deadline yourself.
Can I clear an Ausgrid or Endeavour defect notice myself?
No. Anything on the network side of the meter and most of the items typically listed on a notice are restricted to a Level 2 Accredited Service Provider. A standard A-Grade electrician without ASP accreditation cannot sign the clearance certificate the network requires. Thorntek holds ASP 4869 across overhead, underground and metering, so the whole job and the paperwork get handled by the one contractor.
What does it cost to clear a defect notice?
It depends entirely on what the notice lists. An attachment bracket swap is a different job to a full consumer mains upgrade with a new switchboard. Once you forward us the notice and the exterior photo we'll come back the same business day with a fixed price for the scope listed, including the network forms, the outage and any traffic control.
Do I need to be home when the work happens?
For most clearances yes, because the power is off for part of the day and somebody needs to confirm the supply is back on inside the home. We'll give you a written window the day before and a courtesy call when the crew is on the way. If the work is purely on the attachment point and doesn't need an internal isolation, we can sometimes complete it without you on site.
Will my power be off all day?
Rarely. A typical switchboard replacement is a four to six hour isolation. An attachment repair under a booked network outage is usually two to three hours. A consumer mains upgrade with a board replacement runs longer. We confirm the exact outage window in writing before the day so you can plan around fridges, home offices and any medical equipment.
What if my switchboard has an asbestos backing panel?
It gets handled correctly. We assess the board on the exterior photo where possible, and confirm on site. Asbestos removal is excluded from our standard scope and arranged through a licensed removalist before the new board goes in. We coordinate the sequence so you're not chasing two contractors, but the asbestos work is always quoted and certified separately.
Do you cover both Ausgrid and Endeavour Energy areas?
Yes. Thorntek is accredited to both networks, so a notice from either network is handled the same way by the same team. The forms differ between the two networks but that's our job, not yours. We cover Sydney metro, The Hills, Hawkesbury, Blue Mountains.
