LEVEL 2 ASP 4869 — HOME + COMMERCIAL

EV charger installation across Sydney, done right at the switchboard

A charger on the wall is the easy part. What matters is the supply behind it: a dedicated circuit, the right protection, and a switchboard with room and capacity to run it. We install the charger — and because we're a Level 2 ASP, we can upgrade the board, the mains or the whole supply in the same visit.

01

An EV charger is only as good as the supply behind it

A charger pulls a heavy load for hours, so the supply and switchboard behind it matter as much as the unit. As a Level 2 ASP, we check the supply first, then install the charger to suit it.

  • Check the supply and switchboard capacity
  • Run a dedicated circuit in the right cable size
  • Fit the correct safety switch protection
  • Mount, test and commission the unit

If the board or supply needs upgrading to carry the load, we do that in the same job.

02

Home chargers — single-phase and three-phase

A single-phase charger around 7kW suits most homes. If you have three-phase power, a three-phase charger is faster. We recommend the unit that suits your car and your supply.

  • Dedicated circuit and correct safety switch protection
  • Tidy cabling and a properly mounted unit
  • Full test and compliance certificate
  • Smart charger setup for off-peak rates if you want it

03

When the switchboard or supply needs an upgrade first

Some homes need more switchboard space or supply capacity before a charger can be added. As a Level 2 ASP, we can upgrade the switchboard, run new consumer mains, or step you up to three-phase power in the same job.

One team, one job, every network approval lodged by us.

04

Commercial, strata and fleet charging

Workplace, strata and fleet sites usually need load management so several chargers can share one supply without tripping the main. We design the install so the supply is shared safely and more chargers can be added later.

  • Supply upgrades and sub-mains
  • Metering for billing or cost recovery
  • Cabling and mounting across a car park or basement

05

Done to the wiring rules, tested and certified

Every EV charger we install is wired to AS/NZS 3000, protected by the correct safety switch, tested, and handed over with a compliance certificate.

Common questions.

Do I need a single-phase or three-phase EV charger?

For most homes a single-phase charger around 7kW adds more than enough range overnight and runs off a single-phase supply. A three-phase charger (11kW or 22kW) charges faster again but needs a three-phase supply, which not every home has. We look at your car, your daily driving and your existing supply, then recommend what genuinely suits you rather than the biggest unit on the shelf.

Will I need a switchboard or supply upgrade to add a charger?

Sometimes. An EV charger is a big, sustained load, so an old or full switchboard, or a supply that is already near its limit, may not take one safely. Because Thorntek is a Level 2 ASP, we can check that and, if needed, upgrade the switchboard, pull new consumer mains or step you up to three-phase as part of the same job, so you are not chasing two contractors.

How long does an EV charger installation take?

A straightforward home charger on a board with spare capacity is usually a few hours: dedicated circuit, safety switch, mount, test and certificate. If the switchboard or the supply needs upgrading first, that is quoted and scheduled as part of the same job, and we tell you the outage window upfront.

What safety switch does an EV charger need?

EV chargers must be protected by the correct type of safety switch for the unit. Some chargers have fault protection built in and others need a specific safety switch in the switchboard. We fit the right protection for your charger so it is safe and compliant with AS/NZS 3000, not whatever happens to be in the board.

Can you install chargers for a business, strata building or fleet?

Yes. We design multi-charger installs with load management so several chargers share the available supply safely, handle the supply upgrade and cabling, and set up metering for billing or cost recovery where it is needed. We also leave room to add more chargers later without redoing the supply.

Can the charger work with off-peak rates or solar?

Yes. If you choose a smart charger we set it up to schedule charging to off-peak rates or to top up from your solar, so you are charging when power is cheapest or free. We will walk you through the options that fit your setup.
