Thorntek elevated work platform on overhead service line work against a clear Sydney sky

LEVEL 2 ASP 4869 — AUSGRID + ENDEAVOUR

Overhead service line repairs across Sydney, done by a Level 2 ASP.

A corroded bracket, a storm-dragged cable, a builder waiting on a disconnect. Overhead service work is our day job: we replace the bracket, the cable and the tails, lodge every approval with the network, and energise before the EWP comes down. Cable down or sparking? Stay clear and call 1300 58 58 16, 24/7.

01

The cable, the bracket and the fascia all in one visit

An overhead service has three parts: the conductors from the network pole, the point of attachment on your building, and the consumer mains into the switchboard. As a Level 2 ASP, Thorntek does the whole job in one visit.

  • Isolate at the pole
  • Replace the point of attachment bracket
  • Replace perished service cable
  • Upgrade consumer mains where the gauge no longer suits the load
  • Test every termination before energising

We lodge the connection with Ausgrid or Endeavour Energy.

02

Storm damage and emergency make-safe

If the cable is down, on a fence, or pulled off the wall, stay well clear and call 1300 58 58 16. We isolate at the pole, remove the damaged tails, secure or replace the bracket, and reinstate supply with new cable. We run 24/7.

You get a damage report on Thorntek letterhead for your insurance claim.

03

Disconnect and reconnect (D+R) for renovations and demolitions

When a builder needs to work near the overhead service, a Level 2 ASP must disconnect the supply first.

We isolate the service, cap and tag the network end, then return when the work is done: new bracket, new service cable, board tested and re-energised. Certificate issued before we leave. Send us the trade schedule to book a date.

04

Vegetation clearance defect notices

The network issues a clearance defect notice when branches grow into the safety zone around your service line, or the line sags below minimum height. The deadline sits with the property owner.

We retension or replace the conductor and sign the notice off with Ausgrid or Endeavour Energy. You get the closure paperwork.

05

What's on the truck when we roll up to an overhead job

We arrive loaded for the job:

  • EWP and insulated stick
  • Bracket stock for weatherboard, brick and fibro
  • Marine-grade stainless hardware for coastal work
  • Tin-plated lugs
  • Service cable in the gauges both networks accept

The certificate, network lodgement and photo record land in your inbox. Book a free site inspection or call 1300 58 58 16.

Common questions.

What is the point of attachment and who owns it?

The point of attachment is where the network's overhead service line lands on your building or pole and terminates into the consumer mains heading to your switchboard. The customer owns the attachment hardware (the bracket, insulators and tails), and the network owns the conductors back to the street. Ausgrid and Endeavour each specify slightly different bracket and fitting hardware — we stock both. When the bracket fatigues or the tails corrode, you need a Level 2 ASP to replace it. Thorntek handles the lot and lodges the paperwork.

My overhead service line looks frayed near the fascia. Is that urgent?

Yes. Frayed insulation, exposed copper, fittings gone green, or a bracket that's pulled the fascia board away all need a same-week Level 2 inspection. Don't touch it, don't climb up, and don't move anything stored near the cable. Send us a photo from the ground. We carry replacement bracket stock for weatherboard, brick veneer and fibro fascias on the truck.

Do I need a disconnect and reconnect for my renovation?

If your builder is removing the fascia, replacing a roof, lifting a wall the cable passes through, or working within the safety zone around the overhead line, the supply must be disconnected by a Level 2 ASP before work starts and reconnected afterwards. Thorntek handles both ends — isolating at the pole, removing the tails, and bringing supply back the day the trades hand the site back.

Does Thorntek work on both Ausgrid and Endeavour Energy networks?

Yes. Level 2 ASP 4869 covers overhead, underground and metering across both Ausgrid (Sydney CBD, Eastern Suburbs, Inner West, North Shore, Northern Beaches and the Upper North Shore) and Endeavour Energy (Hills, Greater Western Sydney, Penrith, South Western Sydney, Hawkesbury, Blue Mountains). One accredited contractor for the full overhead scope, every approval lodged by us.

Why does my attachment hardware keep corroding when the neighbours seem fine?

Harbourside pockets through Mosman, Vaucluse, Rose Bay and Watsons Bay sit in sea-spray drift that eats galvanised brackets and copper terminations faster than inland Sydney. Tree-canopied streets in St Ives, Wahroonga and Pymble also trap moisture against the fascia. We replace with marine-grade stainless hardware and tinned fittings where exposure demands it.

Will the power be off long during an overhead service line replacement?

A straight attachment and tails swap is usually back live by lunch: we position the EWP, isolate at the pole, drop the old tails, fit the new bracket, run fresh service cable, tighten the connections to spec and bring you back on. A full consumer mains pull, or a heritage terrace where the bracket has to be packed off the trim, takes the full day. Larger upgrades involving a switchboard change get an outage window quoted upfront.

How much does an overhead service line repair cost?

Every overhead job starts with a free site inspection. You get a fixed-price quote in writing before any work begins, with no surprises on the invoice. For insurance-claim work after storm damage, we quote in the format your insurer's claim file expects, so the assessor can approve straight off our paperwork. Send a photo from the ground or call 1300 58 58 16 to book the inspection.

My insurer wants the overhead service line written up after a storm. Can you provide that?

Yes. After a tree-fall, branch strike or wind event that's damaged the service line, attachment bracket or fascia, Thorntek attends, makes safe, photographs the damage from the ground, replaces the affected hardware, and issues a written report on Thorntek letterhead suitable for the insurer's claim file. The report lists the fault, the work performed and the compliance certificate reference.
