COMMERCIAL — STRATA — FACILITIES

Electrical testing, safety switch testing and thermal imaging across Sydney.

Most electrical failures give a warning long before they cause a fire or an outage: a joint running hot, an RCD that no longer trips, a circuit quietly running over its rating. Thorntek finds those warnings before they become a problem. Thermal imaging scans, RCD testing to AS/NZS 3760, switchboard monitoring and periodic electrical testing across Sydney, all written up so you can hand it straight to an auditor or insurer. Thermal imaging scans — find the hot joint before it fails

A loose or corroded connection heats up under load long before it fails, and you cannot see it with the cover on. An infrared camera shows it as a hot spot straight away. We scan your boards and connections live, under normal load.

  • Joints running hot
  • Overloaded circuits
  • Failing breakers and components

You get a report with the thermal images, temperatures, location and how urgent it is. Many insurers now expect a thermal scan on commercial switchboards.

02

RCD testing to AS/NZS 3760

An RCD (safety switch) cuts the power fast enough to save a life if someone touches a live part. They wear out and stick, with no sign on the board that one has stopped working. Regular RCD testing is a legal requirement for most workplaces.

  • Push-button and trip-time test on every RCD to AS/NZS 3760
  • Each result logged, failures flagged
  • Faulty units replaced on the spot if you want

You get the records showing what was tested and when the next round is due.

03

Switchboard monitoring

We fit switchboard monitoring so you can watch the board instead of waiting for it to fail. Depending on what you need, it covers:

  • Current on each phase and circuit
  • Energy use
  • Board condition, with alerts when something runs over its limit

That lets you catch a circuit creeping toward its rating, balance the load across the phases, and plan an upgrade on your terms.

04

Periodic electrical testing and documented reports

We carry out periodic electrical testing and inspection to keep a commercial or strata site safe and compliant between bigger works. We test with calibrated instruments, record what we find, and tell you plainly what needs attention now and what can wait.

Everything comes back as a clear written report on Thorntek letterhead, ready for a compliance file, a building management system or an insurance claim. Book a testing visit or call 1300 58 58 16.

Common questions.

How often do safety switches need testing?

It depends on the site and how the equipment is used, but most workplaces must have their safety switches tested at set intervals under AS/NZS 3760. We test to the standard, log every device, and tell you when the next round is due so you stay on top of it without having to track it yourself.

What does a thermal imaging scan actually find?

An infrared scan of a live, loaded switchboard shows up anything running hotter than it should: a loose or corroded connection, an overloaded circuit, a failing breaker or a board that is out of balance across its phases. These are the faults that cause switchboard fires and unplanned outages, and they are invisible with the cover on. We catch them early and report them with the images and temperatures.

Do you provide reports we can give to an insurer or auditor?

Yes. Every testing and thermal imaging visit comes with a clear written report on Thorntek letterhead: what was tested, what we found, the thermal images and temperatures, and what needs attention. It is built to drop straight into a compliance file or an insurance claim.

What is switchboard monitoring and do I need it?

Switchboard monitoring means fitting instruments to watch the board's current, energy use and condition, with alerts when something drifts outside normal. It suits sites that cannot afford a surprise outage, or that are growing and want to see how close the board is to its limit before they add more load. It is optional, but it turns the board from a black box into something you can actually see.

Can you fix the problems you find on the spot?

Usually, yes. As a licensed electrical contractor and Level 2 ASP, if a thermal scan finds a hot joint or a test finds a failed safety switch, we can remake the connection, replace the device or do the repair on the same visit, then re-test to confirm it is right.

Do you do this for strata buildings and commercial sites?

Yes. Strata common property, commercial premises, retail, industrial and facility sites are exactly who this is for. We can set up a regular testing and thermal scan schedule so the site stays safe and compliant without anyone having to remember to book it.
